Wait Lists Are Long for Drug Rehab in NJ

In New Jersey, like many states across the country, the wait lists are intensely long for patients who are ready to seek assistance fighting drug and alcohol addiction. Too often, patients are forced to wait months to get a spot in treatment – and for many, this is just too long. Many overdose, end up in an accident, or die in the interim. It’s a problem that is finally getting some of the attention it needs in the form of a task force appointed by Governor Christie. But is it enough?

Court-Ordered Drug Rehab

Drug courts that “sentence” offenders to drug addiction treatment when they commit drug-related, nonviolent crimes are an excellent resource for low-income individuals, but it means that only 20 percent of the state-funded treatment resources remain available for the rest of the population.

It’s an issue that can’t be ignored. In the year 2000, only 72 people in New Jersey sought treatment for prescription drug addiction. That number shot up to 3,878 in 2011. The number of deaths caused by drug abuse is also on the rise as well: 884 people in New Jersey died as a result of drugs in 2010, and in 2011, that number crept up to 1,000.

Where Can Your Family Find Drug Addiction Treatment?

If there simply are no resources available for addicts in trouble in New Jersey, it may be necessary to look outside the state in order to find the best possible treatment resources for your family member’s needs. Rather than settling for whatever is closest with the shortest waiting list, you can increase your loved one’s chances of a successful recovery when you opt for a program that includes:

  • Medical detox and assistance
  • In-depth, personalized care
  • Extensive psychotherapeutic intervention
  • Family therapy and educational opportunities
  • A wide range of therapy and treatment options
  • Ongoing aftercare support services

Increased Opportunities in Rehab Can Increase Opportunities After Rehab

The more that your loved one has in terms of care and treatment during drug rehab, the stronger foundation they will have in recovery when it’s time to go home and try to continue sobriety on their own.
