Hormonal Therapy and Menstruation
Menstruation is fertility and reproduction cycle experienced by women from their early teens until they are in their 30s or 40s. The process of ovulation or egg release and shedding of the endometrial lining occurs in three phases and is associated with a number of symptoms that are sometimes painful and often uncomfortable. Hormonal Therapy at The Orchid is designed to address the emotional and physical issues that are inherent to menstruation, provide women with the tools to care for themselves during the most trying hormonal shifts during recovery, and assist them in identifying what their bodies need healthfully while avoiding relapse no matter what.

The Three Phases of Menstruation
Menstruation begins when the body sheds the endometrial lining that was created in anticipation of nurturing a fertilized egg. The first phase is the follicular phase. This occurs before the egg is released or prior to ovulation. The second phase, the ovulatory phase, occurs when the eggs is released. The luteal phase, or the third phase of menstruation, occurs after ovulation. Each of these three phases will vary in length for each individual. The menstruation hormonal stage usually lasts for more than 20 years, and during this time, it is not uncommon for women to use the emotional and physical issues that accompany menstruation as a reason to drink or use drugs. Hormonal Therapy at The Orchid seeks to offer women alternative ways to mitigate menstruation issues without turning to alcohol and other substances.
Premenstrual Syndrome and Menstruation
Prior to the first day of menstrual bleeding – five to 11 days beforehand depending upon the woman – premenstrual syndrome (PMS) begins. Characterized by a wide range of physical and emotional symptoms that will vary in intensity, Hormonal Therapy offers women in recovery at The Orchid a host of natural treatments and practical ways to recognize when reactions are hormonal and how to handle it without letting the stress derail your recovery. Poor judgment, confusion, and the tendency to react inappropriately to relatively unimportant issues are all common during PMS and when women in recovery learn how to recognize when it’s happening, they can better mitigate the damage. Hormonal Therapy provides this opportunity.
